Healthy Snacking

    | 7 comments
Healthy foods make me feel fresh, energized, and well...healthy! If you are looking for some healthy snack suggestions, check these out:
{fresh watermelon}

{Berries. My mom usually buys a giant bag of these that come frozen from Costco. It's a lot cheaper this way, because fresh berries can be expensive, spoil faster, and they tend to come in one-serving packages. I usually pour a good amount into a bowl, drizzle a little bit of honey over the top, and wait about ten minutes for them to thaw out.}

{Hard boiled eggs are a good source of protein. I like to eat these with a little bit of salt.}

{Boiled artichoke with olive oil and lemon. You can find directions on how to prepare an artichoke here and more recipes for more dips here. This makes a great snack for studying or a party. The only part you eat is the meat on the inside of the leaf, rather than the entire leaf.}

Other ideas: yogurt with granola, Nutri-Grain bars, dried fruit, low-sodium pretzels, nuts, string cheese, whole wheat crackers with hummus dip, cottage cheese, and unsweetened apple sauce.

P.S, I really enjoyed reading your guys' feedback and movie lists on my previous post! I'll have to check out some of the movies that were mentioned. You guys are great!

Stranded

A few weeks ago, I caught a re-run of The Office on TV. It was the episode where Ryan accidentally left his cheesy pita in the community toaster causing a small fire to start. Everyone was forced to evacuate the building. While waiting outside, Jim decided to initiate a bonding activity where each person was to name 5 movies they would choose to have with them if stranded on a desert island.

I thought it would be fun to replicate the idea, so here are mine.

{The Notebook}

{Forrest Gump}

{The Titanic}

{Little Miss Sunshine}

{Stepbrothers}

What 5 movies would you bring?

One Necklace, Three Occasions

    | 15 comments
I might have mentioned this before, but since my freshman year of college, for 95% of the clothing I purchase, I usually ask myself, "Is this practical?" I don't like buying things that I only plan on wearing once, even if it's for a special occasion. In that case, I will find some way to work the piece into my everyday wardrobe. The only exception to this rule would be my prom dress.

While at Nordstrom a few weeks ago, my mission was to find a statement necklace. Lo and behold... I found this glimmering in the light, on the jewelry table in the teen section. It also came in other colors like powder blue, clear, frosty white, black, and yellow. I liked this grapefruit color the best. It reminded me of the fresh fruits that are about to be in season for summer.

For the following three outfits, here is the occasion/type of weather:
1. School, the mall/overcast
2. Day at the beach/sunshine
3. Girls night out, date night/any weather

Fashion Q&A

This questionnaire is borrowed from the lovely Cara (the marvelous flight of cara).

1. One fashion trend I really regret is: Jeans with specks of glitter on them! I was so into those in elementary school.

2. The one thing that always completes any outfit is: A waist belt. This doesn't go for every outfit of course, but for most outfits...a waist belt can do wonders.

3. I would describe my personal style as: Lately, I've just been wearing random things that I think are cute and don't really fit into any category. But-- if I had to classify my style, I would definitely say girly chic.

4. My fashion muse is: Whitney Port. I have come to really love her style. It's feminine, chic, and fresh. I wish her clothing line was available in more stores. I would definitely love to check out her pieces.

5. If I could own one designer piece of clothing it would be: Louboutins! Shoes count as clothing...right?

6. Today I am wearing: a black v-neck t-shirt, an electric blue cardigan, dark wash skinny jeans, a long chain fish pendant necklace, and cognac boots!

Mother Nature Is Indecisive

I have one word to describe the weather we've been having lately: BIPOLAR. Yesterday morning, all the Seattlelites woke up to beautiful, sunny weather. By late afternoon, we were all greeted with pouring rain and strong winds. This morning wasn't too bad. I wouldn't classify it as "nice weather" though. It was a little damp from the storm we had last night with cloudy skies. By late afternoon, Mother Nature decided to be kind, and bring out the sun again. I feel I have to dress to accommodate for a snow storm and a heat wave. Only in Seattle, would you catch someone wearing shorts with a parka and snow boots. ;)

Here is what I wore to school today:

{Jeans with flapped pockets = instant illusion of a booty}

I've been experimenting a lot with my hair lately. I finally found a way to get perfect beach waves without using any sort of heat, or product. My secret weapon is...the french braid! I usually wash my hair at night, and once it gets to a reasonable level of dry-ness, I loosely french braid it, making sure to grab large pieces to create bigger waves, and leave it in overnight. By morning, I wake up with the waves you see below. I try to not use any product to preserve the natural look. This is a simple and easy hairstyle, perfect for summer! (Note: my hair is naturally pin straight).

Stripes and Rosettes

This past weekend, my parents took me birthday shopping! I was on the lookout for several trends that have recently caught my eye. The first, is Breton stripes. I came across this racer back tank top, that happened to be the last one on the rack. Even though it didn't consist of Breton stripes, I fell in love with it, regardless. The intricate rosette detailing next to the vintage inspired navy stripes reminded me of something I would see in Anthropologie (for much cheaper, of course).

Other trends I have been adoring are statement necklaces, right-above-the-knee jean shorts, and Tom's Shoes. What are some trends that you love? or hate?
